All new lab members will need to complete both the Medical Institute IRB training and Homewood IRB training regardless of their duties. The Homewood certification is automatically added to the JHU profile upon completion and the Homewood IRB system will automatically detect this. The Medical Institute, however, requires us to upload certificates on the behalf of new members when requesting an addition to the IRB.
It is recommended to complete the Medical Institute IRB first since the Homewood IRB is comparatively easier and reuses much of the same information.
Medical Institute IRB
- Log in to e-irb.jhmi.edu to initialize profile (you cannot be located in the system until you've logged in at least once)
- Go to this page and register for the “Initial IRB Compliance Training Bundle.”
- Complete the trainings and save the certificates.
- Send your certificates to the lab manager to be added to the protocol.
Homewood IRB
- Follow the step-by-step instructions in this pdf to create your CITI account and register for training.
- Complete the trainings and save the certificates.
- Log in to ehirb.jhu.edu and upload your certificates by clicking on your name in the top right corner and selecting My Profile.
- Send your certificates to the lab manager to be added to the protocol.
Notes:
- Although they're similar, the training between the two campuses is NOT the same and Homewood will not accept JHMI training certificates, and vice versa.
- Once your certificates have been uploaded once (e.g. you've been added successfully on one protocol) they will be saved to your profile and won't need to be re-uploaded for you to be added to future protocols.
- For whatever reason, you cannot upload your own certificates to JHMI, but you can for Homewood.
